Changing narrative from FD to daily returns product

My role

Responsible for UX audit, conceptualisation, visual design, and delivery of key screens.

What is P2P?
Its a peer-to-peer investment product. that enables any investor to earn a returns of up to 9-12% for respective tenure.

Their plan includes with and without lock-in —

Overall portfolio value of 500+ Crores and 30K+ investors.

So, what is the problem?

The problem is the narrative

In P2P, your money is lent to different people for varying periods, so there can be ups and downs along the way. But on average, you can expect to make the ‘promised’ returns by the end of maturity.

But in a FD, your money stays the same throughout the year and then you receive your returns at maturity. Here’s a graph comparing FD and P2P investments 10% per annum for 1 year tenure —

As you can see how P2P returns varies through time and we needed to communicate the same variability of returns in app experience.

Defined Problem Statement

How can we can we change the narrative of the product from Fixed to P2P returns?

My process for this project

Every project is unique and requires a different way of working but for this project I followed this following process —

Screen 1

Let’s start from dashboard

This is the main screen users see after making an investment. We needed to show how they’re earning daily returns, shifting the focus from returns at maturity to daily returns.

Dashboard UX audit

Here’s the existing dashboard after a few investments. It doesn't show users their current returns; instead, it focuses on how much they'll receive at maturity — similar to a Fixed Deposit.

And…we needed to change this!

Exploration B.T.S 📸

I started brainstorming solutions to show users that they’re getting daily returns. I tried several approaches—here are a few examples.

Drum-roll 🥁 please before I present you the final dashboard design 🎉

Thoughts behind dashboard design
  1. Simplified numbers by introducing proration (users could view daily returns).

  1. Added a delightful visual: a return "trolley" to present daily returns dynamically.

  1. Consolidated key metrics (current wealth, maturity wealth, interest rate) for easier comprehension.

Screen 2

Max Investments Changes

I needed to continue the proration concept in Max Investments, but first, let’s look at what UX improvements we can make by conducting a UX audit of the screen!

I saw an opportunity to fix the active investment cards as well so started iterating on it first —

Thoughts behind Investment Card

I focused on reducing clutter by prioritizing key information. The old design had too much visible at once, making it harder to read. I also shortened the card height by 1/3x to fit more investments in the list.

Let’s see how it scales for different investment variants

Thoughts behind dashboard design
  1. Card Design: Shortened card heights to fit more investments on the screen, improving readability.

  1. Continuing Proration: Added the proration concept for consistency, helping users see their daily growth.

  1. Reorganized Info: Primary data like investment returns and wealth took center stage, while secondary data was placed at a lower level to reduce clutter.

Impact of the project

Overall this project had a positive impact and got to learn a lot working on 1.1 projects. There were many follow up scope cut that we picked immediately after this launch.

Thank you for making to the end! 💚

that’s all from me

What’s up with you?
